The Sixth International Congress on Donor Human Milk Banking
Human Milk 2016: Culture, Composition, Use
The Milk Bank was prominently represented at the Sixth International Congress on Donor Human Milk Banking April 11 and 12 in Orlando, Fla. Two staff members and two Board members were able to spend several days with the “rock stars” of the milk banking world. Our poster presentation, “Milk Banks and Blood Banks, How Collaboration can Work” was very well received. Pauline Sakamoto, outgoing President of HMBANA, welcomed everyone to sunny Orlando and helped introduce us to topics such as:
- The Biogenome in Human Milk-human milk has many bioactive factors
- What does a label on the bottle have to do with growth--which also asked the question “how reliable are human milk analyzers?”
- Research update on milk processing technology--very interesting research being done right now
- And what draws moms to give milk?
We were also able to see some of the newest technology in pasteurizers, and the future of milk banking in milk dispensers. Overall, the conference was rejuvenating. Thanks to all of the HMBANA directors and staff for the hard work!
