Each week, we’ll reveal stories of babies and families who have been impacted by The Milk Bank across our 20-year history. Thanks to your support of Fund an Ounce, we’ll be able to continue serving families just like baby Evelyn’s. Her mother, Morgan, shares their story below.
“When my daughter was born, I faced several complications. I ended up having severe hemorrhaging and needed to return to the hospital.
While I was in surgery, my husband attempted to give our breastfed daughter formula. However, she refused at every attempt. I was lucky that I was able to recover within a few hours and I was able to nurse her again.
We discovered that I needed yet another surgery and I would be transported to another hospital and I would be separated from my daughter. My first concern was my daughter and that she wasn’t going to eat and that’s when our doula informed us about The Milk Bank. She even was willing to drive and pick up the milk for my daughter.
This gave me such peace of mind knowing that my daughter was going to be taken care of. It changed the entire mindset when I went into that surgery. I was initially terrified but this really helped in providing me with some relief because I knew my daughter was going to be okay, and I think that truly helped in my recovery.
I’m so incredibly grateful to the milk donors that made sure that my daughter was taken care of and nourished at a time that I could not.”
