Welcome to the Fund an Ounce Reveal the Impact series! The Milk Bank’s largest fundraiser, Fund an Ounce, ensures that the most vulnerable babies continue to have access to the safe donor milk they need.
Each week, we’ll reveal stories of babies and families who have been impacted by The Milk Bank across our 20-year history. Thanks to your support of Fund an Ounce, we’ll be able to continue serving families just like baby Jenson’s. Read his story of impact below.
Jazmin, Jenson’s mother, shares their story of how The Milk Bank’s Medical Relief Fund provided nourishment to Jenson and relief for his family:
“When Jenson was born, he faced a tough road ahead. He struggled with a feeding aversion and was eventually diagnosed with chronic metabolic acidosis, though doctors couldn’t determine the underlying cause. We were left searching for answers.
On top of Jenson’s health challenges, we were managing the stress of an older child with ODD, a five-year-old on the spectrum, and the financial strain from COVID. It was overwhelming, and we were running out of options to give Jenson the nutrition he needed to grow and thrive.
That’s when The Milk Bank’s Medical Relief Fund stepped in. Access to donor milk gave us peace of mind, and without the added financial pressure, we could focus entirely on Jenson’s health and care.
Once Jenson’s health stabilized and I secured a new job, I knew I wanted to give back. The Milk Bank and your donations were literally life saving for us and I cannot wait to be able to try and give back for all that you have done. So again, thank you so much!”
Your support of Fund an Ounce includes our Medical Relief Fund, which is entirely supported through philanthropic giving. This fund helps families break financial barriers and gain access to donor milk based on income and medical need.
In 2024, we provided 227,466 feedings of pro bono milk through our Medical Relief Fund. Your generosity ensures that families who need access to human milk can get it, giving babies the best possible start in life.
