When Leah gave birth to her son Benjamin prematurely, he struggled with low blood sugar issues. Because of this, he was offered donor milk to supplement Leah’s milk as a treatment option.
“Having donor milk was so helpful, and it just gave me a peace of mind that my baby was still getting the nutrients that he needed to help him in the long run,” Leah said.
Benjamin was nourished by donor milk for two days, which resolved his blood sugar issues. “This is our first baby. We were first time parents and scared of all the unknowns,” shared Leah. “The donor milk just really put our minds at ease.”
Benjamin was not only born prematurely, but at a low birthweight as well. This left him at an increased risk for infections and complications, which made receiving donor milk that much more important for his overall health.
“It was just kind of this overwhelming feeling that I had being so thankful that other moms in the community donated milk for babies like mine that are in need in times like this,” said Leah.

Benjamin is now a thriving four month old, and Leah’s found herself with enough milk to be able to donate to The Milk Bank. She’s able to quickly and easily drop her donations of frozen breast milk off at The Women’s Hospital Milk Depot, located close to Evansville, IN.
“I want to thank everyone who’s ever donated breast milk,” said Leah. “I feel so lucky to get to do it now for other babies who were in my situation or worse.”
