Cedar County Health Department Opens Milk Depot in Partnership with The Milk Bank

The community-based milk donation site is The Milk Bank’s 20th donation site in Missouri

EL DORADO SPRINGS, Mo. September 29, 2025 – Cedar County Health Department has partnered with The Milk Bank to open a Milk Depot, where approved milk donors can drop off donations of frozen breast milk. The Milk Depot is now open to the public at the Cedar County Health Department, located at 1317 S. Hwy 32, Suite B, El Dorado Springs, Missouri.

This is The Milk Bank’s 20th Milk Depot in Missouri, and the first to open in Cedar County. “As an organization focused on supporting the overall health of Cedar County residents, we are proud to expand our services to include a Milk Depot in partnership with The Milk Bank,” said Victoria Barker, Director of Cedar County Health Department. “Now, approved donors who have excess breast milk can quickly and easily donate that milk at our Milk Depot and help save the lives of infants in Missouri.”

Approved milk donors of The Milk Bank can drop-off donations of excess frozen breast milk at the Cedar County Health Department Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Donated milk is transported to The Milk Bank – a nonprofit milk bank improving health outcomes for premature and ill infants – where it is processed, analyzed, pasteurized, and distributed to NICUs across the state.

“As we’ve seen the need for pasteurized donor human milk rise at an unprecedented rate, we couldn’t be more grateful for this new partnership with Cedar County Health Department,” said Freedom Kolb, CEO of The Milk Bank. “This new Milk Depot will ensure we’re able to supply lifesaving nourishment to infants across Missouri who are born too small, too sick, or too soon. We are grateful for their help in establishing a convenient, community-based milk donation site in Cedar County.”

Demand for lifesaving donor human milk has risen sharply—up 21.6% this year alone. To keep up with the need for donor milk, The Milk Bank must screen more than 150 milk donors every month. Every ounce of milk donated can provide up to three feedings for premature or medically fragile infants. Those interested in becoming a milk donor can pre-screened or ask questions on eligibility by contacting The Milk Bank at (317) 536-1670 or visiting themilkbank.org/donate-milk.
