The Milk Bank is Awarded SIA Foundation Grant
Grant from SIA Foundation funds a new commercial grade freezer to expand The Milk Bank’s capacity to meet demand for donor human milk.
INDIANAPOLIS – The Milk Bank has been awarded a grant from Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) through their SIA Foundation to protect the critical supply of donor human milk in Indiana.
The $6,328.00 grant will fund a new commercial three-door freezer, expanding The Milk Bank’s cold storage for lifesaving donor human milk.
“The need for Pasteurized Donor Human Milk continues to rise,” said Freedom Kolb, CEO of The Milk Bank. “With 1 in 10 infants born prematurely in the state, there’s an incredible need for donor milk. Last year alone, we saw a 14% increase in total dispensation of donor milk from The Milk Bank. This grant from the SIA Foundation will expand our freezer space and ensure we’re able to provide the critical nourishment necessary for premature infants throughout Indiana.
The SIA Foundation awards grants twice annually to nonprofit organizations seeking up to $15,000 in capital funding for arts and culture, health and welfare, or education projects. Of the 392 grant applicants, The Milk Bank is one of 16 Indiana nonprofit organizations from 11 counties to be awarded capital grants totaling $162,452.46 by the SIA Foundation.
